Newlands Arm Kite Flyers

Affiliated Group of the Newlands Arm Residents & Ratepayers Association (NARRA)

Welcome to the Newlands Arm Kite Flyers — a relaxed, local social group who simply love getting together, enjoying the outdoors, and flying kites over beautiful Dawson Cove.

We’re not an official club — just a friendly bunch of locals, many of us retired, who enjoy meeting up for a chat, sharing lunch, flying a few kites, and having plenty of laughs along the way. Our group is all about community, fresh air, colour in the sky, and doing something that makes people smile.

When We Fly

We have regular fly days on the:

1st Sunday of each month
2nd or 4th Tuesday of each month
(Check the website calendar for exact dates.)

Beyond that, we’re known to head down to Dawson Cove anytime the weather looks good. A quick ring around, a puff of wind, and off we go — kites in hand.

Kites We Fly

Our members fly all sorts of kites, ranging from:
Simple single-line kites — like the $20 models from Aldi (which fly surprisingly well!)
Home-built designs — using the many free plans available online
Large showpiece kites — including giant octopuses up to 8 metres long, colourful fish, sharks, ducks, snakes, and even skeletal creatures that draw quite a crowd
Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve got a collection of flying works of art, you’ll fit right in.

New Members Welcome

We’re always happy to welcome new people. You don’t need experience — just bring yourself, your curiosity, and maybe a kite (or come and borrow one of ours).
Our website includes tips, links, building guides, and information to help you get started or learn more about the world of kite flying.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, social way to enjoy the outdoors and meet friendly locals, come join us at Dawson Cove — you’ll be flying in no time!
