Newlands Arm Landcare Coastcare Group
Formed in 2022, the Newlands Arm Landcare / Coastcare Group is a passionate team of local residents dedicated to caring for public and private land across the Newlands Backwater. Our area stretches from Newlands Arm Backwater in the north, Dawsons Cove in the east, Wattle Point in the south, and Lake Victoria Road in the west.
From 2023 to 2026, our key priorities include revegetation, weed removal, maintaining the Dinni Birraark Walking Track, and installing new signage and seating. Our work focuses on land between the Romawi and Paynesville Landcare Groups, and we collaborate closely with both to achieve the best environmental outcomes for this beautiful region.
Our main efforts centre on the revegetation, maintenance, and protection of the Dinni Birraark Walk, which runs from Lake Victoria Road to Dawsons Cove. This vital wildlife corridor passes through the Forge Creek Water Reserve, where visitors can enjoy a striking bluff formation and lookout.
We hold monthly working bees and community engagement events, and we warmly welcome new members—happy to offer a familiarisation walk to anyone interested. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Gunaikurnai people.
