Introducing the N.A.A.F. (Newlands Arm Air Force)

In 2015, several Newlands Arm residents who were members of the Nicholson Model Sailing Club formed a kite-flying group at Dawsons Cove. Within a few months, the group grew to over 22 members who enjoyed flying kites several times a month. Whenever the weather permitted, we would organise impromptu gatherings to fly kites together.

While most of us were retired enthusiasts, we warmly welcomed local families and their children, provided parents were present to supervise. Our typical meet-ups began around 11:00 am, included a social lunch, and continued until about 3:00 pm. We usually had 15 to 20 kites in the sky, with our record reaching 43 kites at once.

Unfortunately, the onset of COVID led to many members moving away, pursuing other interests, or passing on. Now, several dedicated kite flyers still residing in the area are eager to revive the group.

We invite you to join us for a meeting and some kite flying on Sunday, September 8th, starting at 11:00 am at Dawsons Cove. Our first official flying day is scheduled for Thursday 26th at 11:00 am, where the local NARRA Residents Association has kindly offered to provide a BBQ.

If you’re interested in enjoying a fun and social time by the cove, please attend on September 8th so we can plan accordingly. For more information, visit our website at https://nakf.bravesites.com/ and use the secure contacts page to leave your name and contact details.

Please note, the N.A.A.F. is not a formal club but a local social group that enjoys kite flying, sharing meals, and good laughs. We look forward to seeing you there!
